CDK Global’s Internet VPN product is designed specifically to cater for access from customer sites into the CDK Global Data Centres for HSP provision, access to other hosted applications, monitoring services and for access by support teams to the customer environment.

An Internet VPN provides a highly cost effective means of providing connectivity from a customer site to the CDK Global data centre as it uses the Public Internet rather than a more expensive private, dedicated infrastructure. The use of standards-based IPSec ensures that customer data remains secure whilst being carried over public infrastructure.

A major advantage to the CDK Global Internet VPN is that resilience into the Data Centres is provided as an inherent part of the solution with the VPN terminating servers in the main and backup datacentres running in parallel. Connections are established from the customer site end and if the ‘primary’ VPN server is not available it will automatically establish a connection with the alternate VPN server.

Benefits of CDK Global’s WAN Solutions

  • Low cost connectivity to CDK Global's hosted services
  • Tightly integrated with CDK Global’s Data Centre Services (including HSP & Print Manager) ensuring high availability, enhanced interoperability and low cost.
  • Resilient network resulting in high level of service availability
  • Router at the customer site is configured and maintained by CDK Global, reducing complexity for the customer
  • Reduced contact points for provisioning and faults – customers contact CDK Global first line where we can deal with application and connectivity issues (Customers would still need to contact their ISP directly if CDK Global believe that that is where the fault lies).

The configuration of VPN you choose will depend on the service the VPN solution is going to be used for. CDK Global’s VPN Access Product is available in the following configurations:

  • Service VPN: A secure Internet VPN provided by CDK Global that can be used for connecting a Customer’s sites to CDK Global data centre(s) for delivery of certain CDK Global services such as hosting/HSP and Business Intelligence.
  • Service-Lite VPN: A secure Internet VPN provided by CDK Global that is used for connecting CDK Global data centre services to the Customer’s site(s). This type of Internet VPN is typically used for monitoring and providing multiple Services supplied by CDK Global at the Customer’s site such as Print Plan, Support and Maintenance Services or connecting site systems to CDK Global data centre services such as CDK Global Exchange
  • Support VPN: A secure Internet VPN provided by CDK Global that is used for connecting CDK Global to the Customer’s site(s) where CDK Global provides Support and Maintenance Services for Software or Hardware located at the Customer site.
  • HSP Remote Worker VPN: A secure Internet VPN provided by CDK Global that is used for connecting a customer’s end user remote PC to the customer DMS instance at an CDK Global Data Centre.

Service VPNs and Service-Lite VPNs are available with bandwidths of 512kb/s and 1Mb/s. These can support a varied number of users depending upon the applications being accessed.

A major advantage to the CDK Global Internet VPN is that resilience into the Data Centres is provided as an inherent part of the solution with the VPN terminating servers in the main and backup datacentres running in parallel. Connections are established from the customer site end and if the ‘primary VPN server is not available it will automatically establish a connection with the alternate VPN server.

CDK Global will provide a VPN router on the customer site and will manage this router. However the customer must provide a business grade internet service (normally purchased through a local ISP). Because of the unmanaged nature of the public internet CDK Global cannot manage the connection from end to end and no availability and performance SLAs can be provided for Internet VPN solutions.

CDK Global’s Internet VPNs are not designed to provide customer site to customer site connectivity. Customers would normally have a single VPN connection to a central site where access to CDK Global's services are concentrated, however it is possible to provide multiple VPN connections where customers do not have site to site connectivity.

The diagram below shows how the network is configured.
